Booking Through Thursday is a weekly meme about books and reading.
This weeks question is…
“Do you read book reviews? Whose do you trust?
Do they affect your reading habits? Your buying habits?”
My answer…
I do read book reviews. Browsing through my favourite book blogs and discovering new ones is something I love to do when I need some ‘chill’ time. So when I’m not reading, at work, studying or working on my own reviews, I take to the internet (at least once a day) and have a browse. I’d much rather read up on something I’m interested in rather than spending my time online playing games and whatnot. Don’t get me wrong, I love social networking, but these days my social networking habits tend to revolve around my book blogging. I have a mobile phone for communication with friends if I need to speak with them.
There’s a lot of amazing blogs out there focused on book reviews and book news in general. It would be difficult for me to name a favourite as I find each one offers something different for me. For instance, while one may offer challenges for me to participate in, another may have reviews of the genres I prefer.
Over the time I’ve spent reading different book blogs, I have come to establish which blogs can offer me a review which while helping me determine to purchase a book, won’t have too much spoilers included within it. There has been instances while browsing I’ve come across a review which has deemed a book I was thinking about purchasing, perhaps unnecessary as this particular review has spoilt the plot for me. I feel I have learnt from experience which blogs to trust and which ones to not.
Book reviews are both a source of entertainment and resource for me. While I very much enjoy reading other peoples views on different types of books, they also allow me to make my mind up on purchasing a book which I have been uhm-ing and ah-ing about.
